Eyeworks’ hit Celebrity Splash continues to make waves around the globe as China becomes the latest territory, and the first in Asia, to license the format for local adaptation. Zhejiang TV will produce 13 episodes in 2013 to air in prime time.
Du Fang, Vice President of Zhejiang Satellite TV: “We are delighted and excited to cooperate with Eyeworks on this exciting new format. With China being so well known for its Olympic Diving, we already have a significant number of stars seeking to participate and a wonderful audience awaiting their performance. The Chinese version of Celebrity Splash will be the third flagship show of ZJTV under the name of CHINA TRILOGY, following China Dream Show and The Voice of China. We are looking forward to making this our next big success in 2013.”
Jeff Goldman, Co-Managing Director of Eyeworks International Distribution: “We are excited to work with Zhejiang TV to bring Celebrity Splash to China this year. The fun, energetic, and family-oriented nature of Celebrity Splash is a perfect fit for the Chinese audience, just as it continues to appeal to audiences worldwide.”
Eyeworks and Zhejiang’s announcement comes on the heels of Telefe’s (Argentina) commitment to produce a local version of the format (the first version of Celebrity Splash to be produced in South America), and the impressive January 5 launch in the U.K. (on ITV1), where 6.3 million viewers watched the local premiere starring British 2012 Olympic diving star Tom Daley, winning the night.
Celebrity Splash will continue to debut this year in more of the world’s largest territories including, amongst others, France (TF1), Australia (Seven Network), Argentina (Telefe) and ABC Network in the USA featuring Olympic champions Greg Louganis and David Boudia.
About ’CELEBRITY SPLASH’ –
Celebrity Splash was the breakout hit of the season in the Netherlands, as it averaged 65% more viewers than its closest competition, which included Strictly Come Dancing and Beat The Best. Further, SBS6 more than tripled its station average during the Saturday night, prime-time broadcasts, to reach a 26.5% market share.
Celebrities compete in a live, exciting, family-friendly and often hilarious diving competition in front of a packed audience. They will attempt back flips, somersaults, and complicated dives from dizzying heights in order to impress the judges, dazzle the viewers at home and, most important, to win!
Each ’Celeb’ is given weeks of training by a professional diving instructor leading up to the competition. Dives are not for the faint of heart, as they can be from 3, 5, 7.5, and even 10 meter high boards, and increase in complexity each week! Laugh alongside the celebs as you watch their training blunders, before cheering for them as they take the platform to show off their newly-discovered diving skills. Each week the solo dives will be judged on elegance, technique, courage and degree of difficulty, and in the final episode the celebs will also have to compete in synchronized dives. Celebrities jump out of the pool and in front of the jury panel where they will be criticized and scored. These results combined with the votes received from viewers at home, determine who ends up in the jump-off and who will proceed to the next round. Each series features episodes of preliminary rounds, a semi-final round and an exhilarating final.
