Online Marketplace TourRadar Launches German Language Capability

TourRadar, the world’s largest online marketplace for multi-day tours, goes bilingual as German speaking travelers can now book multi-day tours on TourRadar in their native language. Because of the new functionality, customers can find, book, and review multi-day tours in both English and German. TourRadar works with over 2,500 tour operators to offer more than 40,000 tours in over 200 countries

German market important for international growth

Launched in 2010, TourRadar pioneered the transformation to digitize the touring industry, allowing travelers to compare and book multi-day tours online for the first time.

In October 2017, Endeit Capital led the Series B round that raised € 9 million to accelerate global expansion, followed by a US$ 50 million Series C growth round with US investor TCV in 2018.

For TourRadar the German-speaking market is an important part of its global presence and international growth. The company is founded and headquartered in Vienna, Austria with additional offices across North America and Australia.

In 2019, Austria and Germany were the company’s 5th and 7th ranked source markets, respectively, based on passenger bookings. Over the past ten years the company has grown into the largest online marketplace for multi-day tours through its English offering and the platform will be the first of its kind in Germany.

CEO and co-founder Travis Pittman: “We founded TourRadar in the DACH region, so we’re excited to finally offer our unique service to native German speakers. The German language launch is an important first step in our continued growth as a company as we look to localize our offerings across the world.”

TourRadar is prepared for 2021

While it’s still a tumultuous time for international travel, TourRadar sees a recent surge in bookings compared to earlier this year. With the recent positive news around a COVID-19 vaccine, the company sees an opportunity to expand its presence heading into 2021. The launch on the German market will be an opportunity to help tour operators and destinations be discovered by a new audience of customers. TourRadar launched flexible booking options, which means travelers can book a tour today and if plans change, they can postpone their trip and apply a credit to a future tour at no penalty. The platform also released a list of hygiene measures tour operators are implementing as well as enhanced, safe private tour offerings.
