“I constantly get reminded of what a technical space this industry is. You have to keep track of the global environment and changes because the market is always evolving.”
In 2022, Carin Stjernefeldt left her job as a data scientist to become an investor at Endeit Capital. In this interview, she explores the future of fintech, opportunities in the Nordics, and the importance of continuous innovation in a rapidly evolving industry. Carin: ‘’My experience in data science has been essential for navigating the complexities of fintech, enabling me to thoroughly analyze data, weigh probabilities, and predict financial outcomes.’’
Carin’s shift to venture capital in 2022 was fueled by her aspiration to apply her technical expertise in a new and impactful way. Having worked in data science, both as a consultant and within technical product teams, she has tackled challenges such as credit modeling, customer behavior analysis, and product recommendations. Carin: ‘’Leveraging data effectively has always been my strength.”
The launch of Endeit’s Stockholm office was a pivotal moment for her. ‘’At that moment, I was up for a challenge and eager to use my technical knowledge in a different setting.’’ Carin adds, “I’ve been working with partner Jelle-Jan Bruinsma in Stockholm for two years, and recently, Partner Sara Resvik and Investment Manager Tuomas Rekonen joined us. I believe that Endeit sets itself apart as a company originally from the Benelux by having boots on the ground here. This also aligns well with our pan-European ambition.”
Carin covers fintech deals in the European market. When it comes to describing the fintech ecosystem in the Nordics, Carin mentions two terms: vibrant and filled with potential. ‘’Denmark has proven to be a fertile ground for fintech founders, but I’m also exploring fintech businesses in Norway, Finland, and the Baltics. Furthermore, we have seen promising companies being founded in Southern Europe, for instance, in Spain and France,’’ she says while doing this interview from her hotel in Barcelona. In her experience, companies across Europe consistently demonstrate quality, making the opportunities throughout the market promising.
When it comes to her day-to-day work, Carin is particularly struck by the technical aspects of the fintech industry, ‘’I’m constantly reminded of what a technical space this industry is. You have to keep track of the global environment and changes because the market is always evolving.’’
Carin underscores the growth ambitions of Nordic and Baltic startups that Endeit supports, pointing out their goals to venture into new markets. ‘’At the stage of investment where we engage, many of these companies aim to extend their reach beyond their original markets, often with an eye on the Benelux and DACH. Our extensive network in these areas is greatly appreciated by founders, who regard our Dutch origins as a strategic asset for their expansion plans.’’

Carin’s background in data science profoundly influences her approach to venture capital. ‘’My experience in data science has been essential for navigating the complexities of fintech, enabling me to thoroughly analyze data, weigh probabilities, and predict financial outcomes,’’ she reflects.
Highlighting the importance of a statistical mindset in VCs’ daily decision-making, Carin points out how assessing potential success, time investment, and especially ROI has become central to her strategy. Endeit has recently integrated more of these analytical elements into the investment process. This adoption aims to refine decision-making, ensuring that investments across all segments are grounded in a rigorous, data-informed methodology.
The future goals of Carin in fintech highlight her desire to make a significant impact. She aims to become a pivotal partner for European fintech companies. ‘’My ambition revolves around learning, growing, and serving as a strategic sounding board for fintech innovators,’’ Carin states. Eager to find talent in markets that are now getting more attention from Endeit, like France, Spain, and Eastern Europe, she is committed to supporting innovative companies and aiding fintech ventures in their development, embodying her vision for a diverse and innovative fintech industry.
