Jonas Berendsen, a 17-year-old student taking a gap year after completing his VWO, joined Endeit Capital to gain hands-on business experience before starting his International Business studies. How did he experience his time at Endeit? What project did he work on, and what insights did he gain from his research on AI in business? Jonas reflects, “Working in a business environment was new to me, and I really enjoyed it!”

Hi Jonas, tell us about yourself and how you ended up at Endeit

“My name is Jonas Berendsen; I’m 17 years old and currently taking a gap year after completing my VWO. I spent half a year in Rome for a semester abroad and wanted to gain hands-on business experience before starting my International Business studies. That’s how I found my way to Endeit.”

What project have you been working on at Endeit?

“I conducted research on the rise of AI in business—where we are today, what’s ahead, and where the investment potential lies for venture capital. My goal was to create a broad overview of AI’s trajectory and transformative impact, while also figuring out investment potentials.”

What was the biggest challenge, and how did you overcome it?

“The project was quite broad, so I had to find my focus and structure early on. In school, you get step-by-step guidance, but here, I had to work more independently. I tackled this by reading extensively, doing in-depth research, and structuring my work around key focus points.”

“A strong motivation will take you far.”

What skills or insights have you gained from this experience?

“Working in a business environment was new to me, and I really enjoyed it! I learned how to structure independent research and collaborate with professionals from different backgrounds. Seeing how people with different expertise approach challenges was valuable.”

Has this changed your view on venture capital or startups?

“I’ve always been interested in economics, but working at Endeit gave me a deeper understanding of the venture capital industry. It’s a fast-paced and dynamic world that you wouldn’t normally get exposure to at my age.”

What advice would you give future interns or working students, and what are your next steps?

“A strong motivation will take you far. Also, don’t hesitate to ask for advice—there’s a lot to learn from the different professionals here. I had a great  experience at Endeit, which reinforced my ambition to study International Business at Erasmus University.”
